** Sorry – this event is sold out! **
Engine Shed and the Bluebell Railway would like to invite to you to a very special day for autistic children and their families.
  • We’ll have the Engine Shed’s huge Tomy and Brio train sets to build and play with
  • There will be special “behind the scenes” tours with a Bluebell Railway guide
  • We’ll finish the day with a steam train ride to East Grinstead in our own reserved carriage.

The event is designed and run by autism professionals, so you can be sure of a relaxing, inclusive and enjoyable day.

Who can come?

Child don’t need a formal diagnosis, and the event is suitable for autistic children of any age. Siblings, friends and family are very welcome to come along too.

Children will need to be supervised by an adult at all times.

What’s happening on the day?

The activities will be at Sheffield Park station. You can get there by train (see details below ) or come by car – whichever is easier. At the end of the day, we’ll travel together in our own carriage on the steam train to East Grinstead and back.

The Bluebell Railway’s facilities – cafe, shop, museum etc – will be open as usual.

Schedule for the day:

11am-1pm : The “Engine Shed” will have its huge Tomy and Brio train sets to build and play with at Sheffield Park station.

1-2pm: Guided tours of the Loco Shed and Signal Box at Sheffield Park station

2.30-3.10pm: Steam train ride to East Grinstead in our own reserved carriage.

3.45-4.35pm: Steam train ride back to Sheffield Park.

Getting there by train:

  • You can get to the event by train using the Southern service which runs from London Victoria to East Grinstead. You will need to catch the train which arrives at East Grinstead at 9.50am or 10.20pm, then catch the Bluebell Railway steam train which leaves their platform at 10.30am. This steam train will get you to Sheffield Park at 11.20am, where you can join the activities in the station building.
  • At the end of the day, we will ALL be travelling on the steam train to East Grinstead which arrives at 3.10pm. You can then catch the 3.36pm Southern service to London Victoria.

Accessibility: Due to the historic buildings and railway carriages at the Bluebell Railway, this event is unfortunately not suitable for people in wheelchairs. However, if they are able to use a stair lift, or able to get in and out of a train, we would be very happy for them to attend.
